"no vocals" = "wave of the future"? hm, i'd hate to think they're played
out already.

hm, well, that pretty much makes sense.
i listened to RUOK? again the other day...the second half (after the
intermission track) is a lot better than the first. the tracks on the
first half don't have a lot of progression, movement. they start out
with some noises, noise about for five minutes, then stop. not much
development. they seem to straddle a line between normal and weird and
sound dull in the process. the second half seems more focused and less
like filler.
another thing i miss is the interplay between lynn's drums and jack's
bass. that only really seems to show up on a few tracks. vocal tracks,
can't say i really have much of an opinion either way. the production
seems too "clean" on RUOK?, also. i miss the ambience and murkiness of
_subliminal sandwich_. another good thing SS had going on was the jazz
influence - "future worlds", "1979", etc. those tracks are great.
i really like the noisy track towards the end, though. and "free piece
suite" kicks ass.
