--- R & S Records---
R & S Records is a Belgian techno label founded in 1983 by
Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes, thus the name
R & S. R & S Records were well known for licensing late
eighties techno music originating from Detroit, Windsor,
New York, et al., and disseminating it to a burgeoning
European audience. The label is well known for their
seminal 'In Order to Dance' compilations, which helped
introduce the likes of Joey Beltram, Frankie Bones, C.J.
Bolland, Frank De Wulf, David Clarke, Kevin Saunderson,
Liam Howlett (The Prodigy), Richard Hall (Moby), Dave
Angel, Benjamin Stokes (D.H.S.), and Juan Atkins (Model
500), to name just a few.
R & S Records also gave birth to many sublabels. The most
popular was their Apollo Records offshoot, which focused
on ambient electronic releases by Cabaret Voltaire, Aphex
Twin (Richard James), Biosphere (Geir Jenssen), µ-ziq
(Mike Paradinas), Robert Leiner, Locust (Mark Van Hoen),
Sun Electric, et al.
