Brian "Lustmord" Williams has even a lower opinion of GP-O than I do. Brian is MY inspiration.

telepathic season's greetings,

As Homer Simpson would say: "D'oh!" You're right. I am sure that R&D does stand for Research and Development. Totally makes sense. Can't believe I totally missed that! : ) Now, as for this unknown "Brian", next time I email Cosey or Sleazy, I'll ask 'em and see if they'll clue me in as to just WHO this mysterious Brian is (bum-bum ba)! Lol

R&D is surely Research & Development, a standard industrial acronym and suitably distant and corporate for TG.

As for Brian, good suggestions, thanks. I think maybe it's an in-joke reference to someone in the TG circle. Still curious to know who though.

Oh, I gotcha. But yes, it is curious, that's for sure. Usually a "Thank You Brian" is found in the credit/liner notes of an album, not as the title of a song or a loop. Odd title for a loop, but then again, this is TG were talking about.... ; )

I got it wrong - I thought that the "brian" was spoken, not written. Curious. cheers, s.

Yeah, Brian Jones is really much more of a Psychic TV thing.... although it still could be him.... who knows? But, what I do know, is that the "Brian" is definitely not Brion Gysin (even though Gysin would make more sense), because TG would never thank Brion, then deliberately mispell his name as "Brian". So, I don't know who the "Brian" is that TG is thanking. But, I am pretty certain that whoever it is, it's a Brian who actually spells his name as "B-R-I-A-N", which rules out Gysin. And on the topic of the new loops, I am curious what R and D stand for in "R & D".

I haven't got the gadget, nor really tend to, but in regard to the "brian", it could be Brian Jones (of the Rolling Stones - though that's more of a Psychic TV thing) or, more likely, the also late Brion Gysin, beat poet, writer and man-about-town - for those interested, I suggested the following, which is quite a very good read:

Nothing Is True - Everything Is Permitted: The Life of Brion Gysin by John Geiger Cheers, s., rio

2009/12/8 Angus Spottiswoode <swindonbakery at gmail.com>

With regard to the names of the new loops on the Gristleism, two of them are pretty quintessential TG-ish names: "R&D" and "Wimpy Bar". And one is obvious given the sound of the loop: "Sex String Theory".

But anyone know the story behind the name "Thank You Brian"? And it's windy sound?

Who is Brian, I wonder? And why are they thanking him?

Just curious.

In the live section that the loop comes from, Genesis sings "thank you Brian, you give us raw material. "

just got my Tri-colour box edition - very nice it is too! 3x Badged
Gristleism(B/R/C), certificate (numbered by Cosey I believe?), a couple of
Gristleism cards one black, 1x grey and a Gristleism badge all in a nice
padded sorta silk box with Gold embroidered TG Endless not logo.

They do sound a little tinny but whatdya expect from such a tiny speaker???
the loops are all fun but I haven't really gotten around to playing with em
all yet

BTW nice touch crediting the chinese(?) labour on the packaging for building
the things too!

P.S Happy Gristlemas everyone!

Hey, Ben- I'm just curious... Which live performance (venue/date) does that section come from, where Gen sings "Thank you Brian, you give us raw material."?

Yeah, you're right. It is on 2nd Annual Report. Funny, I never noticed it before and I must have listened to it well over 100 times! However, the loop title is actually not taken from one of the many live tracks, but rather the studio version of Maggot Death. Gen starts singing the "Thank you Brian" segment at the 3:24 mark (on the CD), for anyone who's interested. Well, I guess that rules out Brian "Lustmord" Williams, too. As he didn't start making music until nearly 3 years after 2nd Annual Report was released. So, the identity of this "Brian" still remains a mystery... lol
