INDUSTRIAL CULTURE FILM FESTIVAL PREMIERES IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH
TRANSGRESSIVE FILMS BY
THROBBING GRISTLE, FAKIR MUSAFAR, NERVOUS GENDER
Asphodel and Mobilization.com are co-presenting a special event of new and
archival films by prime-movers of what has become known as "Industrial
Culture". The first installment of this multi-part festival takes place in
three separate screenings:
SATURDAY DEC. 16, 2006 at 6pm, 9pm and 11:50pm at RECOMBINANT MEDIA LABS in
San Francisco, CA
Advanced tickets and info: http://www.mobilization.com.
Advance Premiere Screening of THROBBING GRISTLE'S First Live Performance in
The jewel of this first event is the premiere of a new film by THROBBING
GRISTLE, the English inventors of "Industrial Music". The film is scheduled
for release next year as part of a DVD box set, and was filmed in late 2004
at the Astoria Theater in front of an invited audience of 1500 souls. This
was the first live appearance by THROBBING GRISTLE since their break-up in
"Recombinant Media Labs seemed like a perfect fit for this first event" says
Mobilization.com founder Ethan Port. "It is an intimate venue, and they have
an amazing state-of-the-art ultra-frequency sound system that will allow us
to reproduce the THROBBING GRISTLE concert film in a truly 'immersive' way
not possible in a traditional theater."
Sacred Sun Dance Body Suspension Ritual Shown :
Other features include portions of the film "Dances.Sacred and Profound",
which focuses on FAKIR MUSAFAR, the "godfather" or "patient zero" of the
Modern Primitive movement. A Native American "Sun Dance" body suspension
ritual filmed in the early 1980s will be screened. The ritual is performed
with FAKIR MUSAFAR's long time friend JIM WARD. Both are prime movers in
popularizing and promoting a vast array of body modification styles and
techniques, including safe, professional body piercing.
World Premiere of Rare 1980 Video of Transgressive Post-Punks NERVOUS
The third film is a very rare live concert from 1980 by Los Angeles
transgressive industrial freaks NERVOUS GENDER. Like others in the early
Industrial movement, NERVOUS GENDER combined the raw, aggressive power of
punk with electronic music. The performance, filmed just 3 days after they
appeared on the "Live at Target" video, features 8 year old drummer Sven
Pfeiffer. (Historical Note: NERVOUS GENDER was one of the first bands in the
L.A. punk scene with hispanic and openly gay members.) NERVOUS GENDER has
also just released a CD from a 1979 show when the band included PHRANC, who
went on to a solo career identified as the all American Jewish-lesbian folk
Live discussions are scheduled with: NERVOUS GENDER, FAKIR MUSAFAR, MONTE
CAZAZZA (the co-author of the term 'Industrial Music'), V. VALE (owner of
RE/Search Publications, and author of the "Industrial Culture Handbook"),
CHARLES NEAL (author of "Tape Delay"), and ETHAN PORT (Mobilization.com
owner), plus a live installation by pyro-industrial artist SCOT JENERIK and
F-SPACE. Some THROBBING GRISTLE members may join the panel remotely, and
Genesis has proclaimed:
MONTE CAZAZZA is hereby declared my official voice by proxy and WHATEVER he
says about TG I agree with.
This event also marks the release of the new hardcover edition of the
"Industrial Culture Handbook", originally published in the early 1980s. The
re-pressing is a joint release by RE/Search Publications and
Mobilization.com, and signed copies will be available at the show.

ABOUT MOBILIZATION and THE FILM FESTIVAL:
This is the first of several film screenings Mobilization will be producing
in 2007. Mobilization is also infamous for it's "How to Destroy the
Universe" festivals which combine fiery machine-art (often from the Burning
Man community) with essential Industrial and Post-Punk artists. Past artists
have included BLIXA BARGELD (of EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN and formerly of NICK
CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS), THE LIVING JARBOE, SAVAGE REPUBLIC, MIKE WATT, THE
MERMEN and F-SPACE.
