Lovecraft as a crafty detective!)? 'it's 1948, in L.A., and EVERYONE uses magic' (or something to that extent), it actually is about "magic", at least :-)> Clay Alberty ----------------------------------------- ?The Bishop's Wife Marina Waltz ----------------------------------- Wizards Angel Heart? tyagi ----- ?The Hump-back Horse ?The Snow Queen Both are Russian-made full length cartoons, and both are based on Hans Christian Anderson stories. I especially recommend "Hump-back Horse" for its depiction of magic as something which surrounds us in everyday life. "Michele A. McCormick" ------------------------------------------- ?The Devil Rides Out Big Trouble In Little China Mary Poppins Shez ----------------------- ?Demon Spawn ...it's supposed to be "thelemic" ....the motif of Scarlet Woman supposedly central. ?Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky) ?Mondo Magic by two Italian brothers - more of an anthropological film, but not overtly academic (familiar with the "Mondo Cane" movies from the 60's?). Narration by the famous author Alberto Moravia. The Witches an old movie by the Danish filmmmaker Benjamin Christensen. It was re-released by Anthony Balch in the 70's with narration by William Burrougs. You may want to contact Carl Abrahamsson at carl@lgc.se for further information on these films. Arild.Stromsvag@etno.uib.no (Arild Stromsvag) --------------------------------------------- The Golden Child ...for a thought-provoking comparison, try watching [Big Trouble in Little China and this film] in rapid succession. The plot structure is almost identical (the difference is the hero's ability or lack of same in relationships) but the treatment is very different. The same actor plays the Good Magician in both movies. dickeney@access4.digex.net (Tamar) ---------------------------------- ?Warlock especially the sequel with the Druids foxr@nevada.edu (ROMELLE) ------------------------- ?A Nightmare Before Christmas Music by Danny Elfman. My three year-old's favorite Christmas *and* Samhain movie. The Season of the Witch (Not the 'Halloween' series). Standard 'bored housewife seduced by power of Satan', except that the ending consisted of a by-the-BoSh Gardnerian initiation. Any information would be appreciated. au771@torfree.net (Jennifer Smith) ---------------------------------- The Sword and the Stone. The focus is all on arthur prior to his acension (when he is still wart) it uses the arthurian mileau to explore coming of age and education (it is a disney film), primarily though magic. litch@eden.com (R.Michael Litchfield) ------------------------------------- This document is Copyright (c) 1995, authors cited.
