Jang said, "It's like an ox pulling a cart. If the cart won't go, would you hit the cart, or would you hit the ox?" Tao I had no answer. Jang continued, "In the midst of transitory things, one should neither grasp nor reject. If you keep the Buddha seated, this is murdering the Buddha; if you cling to the form of sitting, this not attaining its inner principle." Tao I stayed with Huai Jang for 10 years.
