Spiritualism appears to be a kind of religious movement also, perhaps on the wane, especially in Eastern and mid-Western states. Spiritualism usually seems to include the idea I call 'the meat-puppet paradigm' (MPP). MPP identifies human beings as some kind of ghost which inhabits human bodies like meat-puppets. MPP describes 'reality' as 'beyond the physical', usually sourcing that material realm in an abstract 'reality' called 'the astral' or 'God' or some other 'less dense vibration'. MPP tends to see the 'earth-plane' as a temporary place, a kind of classroom where we come to learn lessons and then depart for less dense realms. MPP typically includes ideas like 'reincarnation' (the origin of the 'meat-inhabiting idea' -- carn=> meat). in contrast to this I would describe to you what I mean by 'spirituality'. 'spirit' is a mistaken impression of separation between subjective and objective consciousness. that is, what we take to be 'the body' is us looking at ourselves as physical objects. what we take to be 'the spirit' is us looking at ourselves as immaterial subjects. an analogy for this is the comparison between a living-room on wheels and an automobile. the living-room on wheels is seen from the inside (spirit), the automobile from the outside (body). both are the same but they are experienced in two different ways. 'spirituality' is that which enhances the subjective experience. this is very different, which should now be obvious, from 'Spiritualism' as I have defined them both. typically I think of the 'soul' as the entirety of the the experiential self, not something necessarily static, but the entirety of what we are. blessed beast! nagasiva@yronwode.com nocTifer
