Maybe because I have been involved for over two decades. Although there always has been a fringe element which we used to call the "Cowy, Piggy, Horsey school of thought Wicca has never been considered fluffy. The Light, Life and Brown Rice school is one of New Age Enlightenment. BTW I had long been involved with the Pagan Community at large for at least ten years before I heard of the Wiccan Rede, or the Charge of the Goddess. I had seen a quote from Crowley before then which cited "...an it harm non, do as you will...", which then went on to say that this was the whole of the law. But Crowley was not wiccan.
