My answer is that everyone knows that the intellectual and transcendental 
modes of consciousness are less painful and therefore better.  Our
goal, after all, is to learn from this yucky earth-flesh stuff
and get out FAST.

We did some wicked thing to have wound up in this very nasty place
we call 'materiality'.  But if we are diligent and eat the right
foods and feed the beggars and watch our breaths until our legs
fall off, then we'll get to escape this wretched world too.

The low is the evil.  We live in a gravity sink and our objective
is to fly from it like freed birds.  Then we get to go off in our
astral space-ships and have lots of fun playing with the great
non-physical-sex god.

Nah, consciousness is that Great Thought, which is part of the Supreme,
head-centered perfection.  When you start talking about the senses (Maya)
and emotions (addiction/attachment), then you're talking low low low
again and everyone knows that higher is better.
