After the Morgan affair occurred in the U.S., the Craft took great care to conceal the occult aspects. This facet was supported by the english brethren. This explains why Westcott was willing to go to any lengths whatsoever to conceal the true origin of the GD. The Secret Chiefs of the Third Order were, in fact, High Grade Hermetic Freemasons. The name "Sprengel" in "Anna Sprengel" in fact means "Masonic Jurisdiction" in German. We shall perhaps never know who or which High Grade Masonic Chief was concealed by this appelation. The Golden Dawn emanated in part from the "Gold und Rosenkreutzer", a high grade German Hermetic and Masonic Order which utilized Grades of the same titles as the Golden Dawn. The Golden Dawn also emanated from "Memphis-Mizraim" and other High Grade Masonic bodies. Certain Druid Orders, actually connected with Masonry, were also involved.
