Naturally, it >made no mention of him being the son of god... Of course there were Roman texts referring to Jesus; whether they were of the same time period that Jesus was supposed to have preached, I doubt. The Roman authorities, however, never bothered to make any sort of official investigation of the Christ cult, so they merely accepted the Christian's claim that a man named Jesus had preached in Palestina as not worth the effort to refute. A very unfortunate decision, as it turned out. As for the particular text you mention, I believe I may have seen it myself at some time. That it would refer to "Jesus, who was called Christ" is certainly a clue that it wasn't an authentic record of an actual person. If it were, it would probably have used a proper Aramaic name rather than the later Greek interpretation. > Just thought I'd bring that up before he did (unless he already has >- I'm replying as I'm following the thread...) > > Charon, Lion in the path > >-- >*** My familiar is a pterodactyl - I feed it dipshits. *** _ >»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»««««««««««««««««««««««««««««« | | >I've been looking for an original sin, | | > One with a twist and a bit of a spin; | | > And since I've done all the old ones, | | > 'till they've all been done in ____| |____ > Now I'm just looking |____ X ____| > Then I'm gone with the wind, | | > Endlessly searching for an original sin......ML |_| > | > > -- -------------------------------------------------- <<<<>>>>
